Has the time come to bid-adieu to old bulky computers and laptops, If not, then the scene is not too far-flung.
Say hello to Google's new Mobile operating system "Android".
Is it an another Google's scion? The answer is no!
Android was a Mobile OS developed by a small company called as 'Andorid' and then Google bought it adding to its arsenal another weapon to combat the mobile development world and came up with it in a big way, all it needed was Google's brand name, and the world started following it!
Google Android is a platform built upon Linux kernel with their own customized virtual machine called as Dalvik.
One of the good things about it was that Google came up with the SDK even before launch of first Android based phone called as T-Mobile's G1.It is a handset manufactured by HTC and service provided by T-Mobile.
The SDK comes with a phone emulator and many features, through which you can develop different applications in Java using the provided APIs in the SDK.Though it sounds like just another SDK, but trust me it is FULLY LOADED! Moreover,it gives you the flexibility to add any jar file and continue the development for the phone applications.
Now, talking about the features of the phone and the SDK, there are many features the phone has like Google maps, Google API's, gmail etc.
You can easily develop an app to use anyone of these or many of these in one app.for example location finder was such an app developed, which finds location on the Google map of the contacts saved in your phone book.
Google had come up with a contest for developing the best app, and it was won by a company called as "Big in Japan Inc.", they had made an app called as 'ShopSavvy' which scans the bar-code of a product in a super market using the phone's 3 Mpx camera, finds its price and other details and you can compare it with prices in other super markets nearby.
Not only that you can parse any Web Service available online and use it on your phone as you like, So many more applications like these were built showcasing the power and flexibility provided by Google Android.
So you can download the SDK and other requirements from http://code.google.com/android/ and start developing your own app, as many tutorials and forums like (http://code.google.com/android/groups.html) are there to provide help, So for all the tech-savvy people, there is something they must try out.
The stage is ready and the scene is set for the smaller species to take over their older and rather huge counterparts, and the spark has been ignited!!

Rock on-My thoughts on the movie
Rock On,Nice Movie,But still a movie!!
The movie tries to sell the dreams to all the musicians across the country,But does it actually invoke our inner quest of music?Or it makes us realize the compromise which most of the music persuaders in our country have done or in the path of doing it.
Well I guess most of us of this music or 'Rock' cult in India can very well relate to it.But the thing that we can actually do something in music in India apart from Bollywood, still sounds a dream long awaited.
Then we see a Hindi Rock Band,Well only after Jal,Strings made it big we have started to have Our Hindi Rock Bands,I had one too and was in touch with many. But no one actually made it big even after having loads of talent!
Despite having tons of reality shows like Indian Idol,Sa Re Ga Ma Pa,VOI,they only focus on getting Playback Singers,to dance on tunes of our Hindi Film Industry Music directors,And all of us know how many actually do it!!
Then we talk about the so called "Rock culture" in this country.Everyone in this arena knows about Local Rock Bands like PDV,BM,DR,ZERO,PentaGram,TAAQ,Cryptos,Metakix,BF,FTN,Prestorika,Parikrama,Indian Ocean, and many more.. countless but apart from getting featured in few US Rock magazines and openining for Big bands.. No one has ever made a mark on the main stream in the country.
The only thing that sells here is Bollywood music,Bhangra and of course couple of Pakistani Hindi Rock Bands (No offenses to any genre of Music),But the Local Rock bands' talent, if compared to the above mentioned is way way more.
So,what we see in the movie "Rock On" that their "dream" to go big and actually become a band like Metallica or something in India looks like a fairy tale.
The good thing about the movie however was that actually they have shown the real future of the band members, what they become after the band splits,Till that point its very true and this is what happens to all of us.This might sound like a very negative thought but its true,After a point of time when we meet real life and search for our bread-butter,we have to compromise in some way or the other.
You can still pursue music, work under some music director or in some studio, open your small music school and teach,or play live music in pubs, marriages and parties.
Nothing has changed and the dream of having a culture of ROCK BANDS in India where they are treated like Gods and are way above Bollywood, still looks like a dream only.
We all pray that one day we actually see it happen in India.Pray! thats all we can do here, trust me...Many have tried and are trying... All the best wishes to the Music fraternity and the people who are still trying!

Are you really happy?
Hey, When was the last time you asked this question to yourself?
I am talking to you, don't try to ignore the question,And If you are trying to ignore the question the answer seems so obvious!
Well,Lets start talking about happiness in life,So how do we define it,Lets say for some it means success, money, love, freedom, fame, desires etc etc. But what exactly it is?
Ok I wont get into boring theories, which i guess we all know, happiness lies in pursuit of happiness, its the journey not the destination,if you are happy from within, you are happy anyways....blah blah..... lots to pen down... But we will talk here about why I am not happy,or perhaps why we all are not happy.
Let me first start with what i feel, I feel we are not doing what we want truly, thats why we are not happy, we don't want to go to work, but still we have to so we become unhappy, we don't want to get up in the morning but we have to,so we crib. Basically if we try to make ourself mechanical and indulge in a disciplined life.. we end up becoming somewhat gloomy..!!
So what do we do? If we want to survive and attain materialistic goals,we need to do something, then the question comes, why do we want materialistic goals, again to make ourselves happy, haha...It looks like a vicious circle to me.
So say we get out of this vicious circle, leave everything and go to some place like Himalayas and just start living life like ancient sages, but will it make us happy? First of all I don't think we have that much courage to risk our life and leave everything, and secondly it might not give us the real happiness which we are searching for.... hmmm....
So then i find myself in a situation that most of us are, that we are being slaves of something or the other and that is what is causing us feel like "loosing ourselves".
So after much discussion, let me jot down few causes of we being "slaves":
1. Want to become rich, born in middle class family
2. Want to attain higher position in life, though an average man.
3. etc etc etc,,,, millions of things...
keep counting.... So Can we say that being ambitious makes us unhappy, may be one of the reasons,
Then it should be that a person, who has everything, should be happiest? Perhaps no!
So we have got our conclusion, that the chase for dreams and materialistic goals is making us unhappy and then people who have it all are also unhappy!! Then why worry chasing and become sad....
I guess i have got a point here.... Lets try and be content in what we have and stop thinking about "Real happiness", the best possible answer would be to feel we are actually really happy and stick to the fact that what is there is best for us...
And one day we will feel happy, but there is a catch "compromise is different than being content"
If you have a longing desire and you curb yourself, you will never be happy......
Now lets try to sum up and make a recipe of being happy
1.Be happy what you have
2.But don't curb your inner calls,Go For it! then don't think of failure!
3.Differentiate between what is lazy and what is you don't actually want.
If you can work on these few tips,i guess you will be happy...(I am just guessing :P)
Still if you cant be happy.. write another blog :P
cheers,
Anirudh
